Sheltie ears
« on: July 06, 2008, 12:38:28 PM »
I dont want to bother the breeder as its her birthday, but just a question for any Rough/sheltie owners.

Jake is 10 weeks, he is 9½ inches high which by the Sea Isles growth chart says he's doing okay size wise, but one of his ears has pricked up.

Is now the time to use to Kaolin (which I have never used btw) or do I leave it?

Of course still not sure if his merling is going to be okay for showing but i still wanted to try and do my best with the rest.

Just use a small bit, too much and it will have the opposite effect as it will strengthen the ear muscles ;)

The kaolin weighs the ear tips down, as the standard calls for semi erect ears so, if the go fully erect they need to be weighted to help them go the right shape for showing  :)

The Sea Isles chart is a chart to help plot a sheltie's growth and size :)

Here you go GSP  http://bowlingsite.mcf.com/size/size.html
As for the ears  ::) I have never weighted them so no help there, some of mine winged about a bit when they were teething but have never had to weight them, did know a breeder that used wine gums, they would have lasted at least two seconds in this house

Here we go, little monkey stayed still for long enough  :D  The wind blew it slightly, but it is a little more pricked than this.  Its hard getting pictures as he keeps barking at the camara.
