 Oscar and Juno played for hours last night none stop!!! Jesus, first i wanted them to play together, now i can't stop them  They're really getting on!!!! She's really confident now and a little rascal. She'll definately end up the dominating him.

How did it go on friday Richard

Hey everyone,

Well friday was an eye opening experience.
First off, yes Bev is brilliant!!!!

Right onto the dogs, Well since Bev came around ive been working none stop with both Oscar and Juno. God i don't know if its more tiring for me or the dogs
Ive been getting oscar more consistent on the cues he knows and adding a few more. The thing i learnt alot about on friday as regards to oscar, is the fact i was confusing him alot of the time, by using for example the cue down, to mean to lie down and to get off things. Its just thing like that, that have helped loads. He knows really well the cues sit, down, off, 4 paws, here and stay. Im working on leave at the moment, but he's getting it. Also i teaching him to walk to heel, which can be extemely frustrating especially if he did it the day before but now hasn't got a clue what your saying to him. But he's getting alot better.

My only issues with him are the barking at evey little noise outside and going crazy if someone knocks on the door. I have clamed this to a certain extent with cues, ie down, sit, wait! oh and enough. But its still that initial reaction i want to stop.

Now for little Juno,

First off, she's one of the most lovely dogs ever!!!

Now secondly, she's a rascal!!!

Thirdly, Yeah ive been working with her like oscar, trying to teach her, her cues!! She's very bright (Bevs words!) and she's picking them up very quick, its just trying to get them consistent. Im also trying to make her bed area a place she like to go, because when she's in her bed on her own she cries and becomes very distressed, but lst night she went in there on her own and fell asleep!!

As for both of them together, in the words of tony the tiger, they'rrrre great!!! I still have to let them have space if it gets to much but they play really nice together and Juno seems to be getting the better of Oscar!!! I think he's under the thumb already!! But aren't we all
Ive ut out the bullying and oscar seems to be realising if Juno does'nt want to play, he cant just bully her into it!!

Anywho, thats my small update!!! Any questions

Oh I have hunners of questions cos I know that loads of others will have the same.....  So let us all do the asking before Bev tells us all how crap we are    She never uses crap but we know in our hearts now that is what she means 

What are you doing differnt now to you were doing last week  
Remember what your first post was - reread and tell us what is different now.

Tell us what you want to achieve and what is your step by step plan to achieve it  
What criteria are doggies working at at moment - both will no doubt be at different stages.
Then this is the good bit that a lot of us fail at - how you gonna test it  

I think you are very brave trying to recondition Oscar whilst having pupster in tow at same time    Not for the feint hearted.

Well lets start with oscar first, right on Bev's insistence, ive changed the tone of my voice when talking to him, because before i was giving him the cue "here" but i was almost using a "you've done something wrong" voice, so by just changing my tone, he seems to be obeying the cues alot more.
Im being alot more consistent with the cues and not just saying oh i'll just let him get away with it this time. That applies to alot of stuff espicially jumping up. Oh he knows the 4 paws and off cues now!!!
As for Juno, well i only just had her last week but i think she's improved because like oscar, im not just saying oh because she's a puppy i'll let her jump up this once and so on. Also, i don't molly coddle her if she cries and i don't let her push herself into my body when oscar is around because she gets cocky then and he gets jealous.
As for them together, im alot more calm now and not as nervous, also i can tell the body language alot more (no where near like bev), but as i was shown i didn't realise things like if Juno doesn't want to play oscar would paw and nip her into playing/reaction. Because i see this straight away now and stop it straight away, she's not scared around him and he understands when she doesn't want to play, but thats going to take a while to perfect.

All sounds good - yes Bev sees a lot more than any of us ever see.  She speaks Dog 

So what do you want to achieve?

You want harmony in the household yes    so tell us how you gonna achieve it    That will be your step by step plan.  i.e. 1st week I am going to reinforce bla bla -

Criteria - is when they are 100% fluent in something - like sitting every single time when asked in the house, every single time in garden, every single time in someone else house - all different criteria - will be 101 posts about it on training.  Type in criteria in search

Oscar is a lot older than Juno he is an adult dog - she is a pupster.  That doesnt mean Oscar will be easier to train than Juno or vice versa - depends on what Oscar already knows and what evil sneaky stuff he will teach Juno   

Eventually they will realise because they dont have time to think about it they are much happier when you are leading the way - less stressed - less emotional. 

They are not the easiest of breeds but they are very rewarding. 

So what are you training them at the moment - how do you decide what to do - that is your step by step - you must have in your head at least some sort of plan 

So eg. take 4 paws, how fluent is it ? what % at what criteria.  i.e. does he do it 100% of the time and where, inside house, garden, at park, on street - easy to get stuff fluent in house but outside where there are smells, scents, doggies, people, traffic, whole different ball game

Ok, here goes another 12 page post from me.

My goal is for Oscar to know all his cue 100%, to stop acting like the pack leader and for him to be able to socialise with dogs more. I want him o walk on the lead without pulling. Also at some point Justine wants to do agility with him.

For Juno, i want her to be more confident (which she is becoming), and like oscar know all her cues 100%.

As for both together, i just want them t be able to play together with toys, walk togther, for oscar not to bully her at all and for them to just generally love each other and keep other company if im not there.

How to achieve this, well......

Im working with them both for about 6 hours a day. Sometimes together, sometimes apart. Im working oscar at the moment his walking on the lead as bev said this was extremely important, because the pulling is effecting his body shape. also im woking mainly his wait and stay cues.
Then i want to move onto his leave cue which he struggles with. Then hopefully i want to start socialising him more.

With Juno, ive started to walk her around the garden on the lead because she's still got to wait a week or so until she's aloud out in the wide world, but i want to get her walking well before we start getting all the distractions of the outside world. Im just basically working very hard with her "off" and "4 paws" cues because she's jumping up alot. Im also as pi previously said, trying tomake her bed space a good place.
Next i want to work her stay and leave cues.

As for both of them, im letting them play together as much as possible but not allowing any bullying. Ive got them both kongs which seems to be going ok, oscar doesn't seem to mind her having it. But im at a loss on how to stop the guarding of food and his own toys. But im reading alot of good stuff on this board so i'll be putting it into action.

Criteria(%): Oscar Sit 90, down 70, give paw 100  , stay 60, leave 30, here 90, close 60, heel close 50, off 80, 4 paws 100, speak 10000!!

The only cues oscar does outside of the house is sit 80, give paw 100, stay 60, here 100, leave 30, close 60, heel close 50, speak 10000!!.

Juno  Sit 70, down 30, give paw 0  , stay 60, leave 30, here 70, close 0, heel close 0, off 70, 4 paws 90, speak 0.

okay so you need to break it down more - lead training if it is affecting his conformity then this has to be first and foremost - used to do 10 minutes in every hour for nooch - most of that time was going back to house as his manners were crap 

so criteria - I take it you mean in house with this    If so anything that is 100% in house needs to go outside to garden now    you need to get recall 100% everywhere so I would work on this - verbal and visual - sorry bev I dont want to "take over" - just been here before 3 times over  with same breed

Juno will become more confident the more time you spend sorting out Oscars manners    And all training should end on a positive note no matter how crap they have been (in your opinion  )

so Oscar only 90% in house recall but 100% outside

when doggies are tired through training (even if they dont realise they have been training) it earns you respect and a close bond
