I think you should put a companion on hold for the moment until you have sorted out his behaviour as unfortunately your new one will copy the bad habits your older one already has; do you really want TWO dogs with the same problems?! :D

There is a Weimaraner league and if you contact Debbie I am sure she can put you in touch with Janet Hudson or someone else in your area for some help.

Im definately going to get in contact with her.

Just a quick question, eveytime someone knocks on the front door he goes beserk, running around barking. Now is he doing this because someones made a noise or is it because im nervous because i know how he's going to react. Its getting worse.

If its the later how should i act around him if someone knocks on the door?

Thanks

Richard

Teach your dog that knocks on the door mean something else.

So you can scatter food on the ground, if he is hoovering it up he cannot be running around and barking or you can teach him this is the cue to go to his bed by feeding him there.

Just wanted to say hello and welcome - you have a very handsome boy there  :)

Youve been given very sound advice, its a shame Kiz isnt around this week, she would of given even more input - but Sweetypye and Mudgie sure do know what they are talking about  ;)

All the best and do let us know how you get on with him  :)

Hey,

Just a quick update, Oscar doings really well so far, ive bought an agility set for the garden and he loves doing it and he's picked it up so quick, i also do the hiding treats in the graden thing as well which he also loves. One thing that has really worked is when someone knocks on the door, i get him to sit and then wait and he gets a treat. He waits patiently, until the person has either gone or come in then he knows he'll get a second treat if he's good.

This time next year Crufts  ;D, well not quite, be he is improving. Also im being very strict with him and slowly "i think" im becoming the more dominant in the house. Its hard, but we're getting there!.

I can say hand on heart that the more time you put in training with your dog - the more respect and better relationship you will have with him - you only get out what you put in  ;D
