a visual drop is the lying down sorry...i tend to say to clients do a drop cos if dog hears me say do a down the dog hears me and responds as if i had cued 

throw out treat - sets up dog for the behaviour to be cued next - as she comes back to you cue the sit click reward

sequence is

cue
behaviour happens
click
reward by throwing out treat to set dog up for the next cue

Indeed you did and I have printed it out and been learning it! I just got confused as to what you meant by drop. I interpreted it as a "give" which you've now cleared up!

Ok so, just to clarify in my head:

For sits:
1) Throw out treat...
2) As she comes back, raise right 1st finger...
3) As she sits (assuming she does), click...
4) Throw out next treat...

For downs:
1) Throw out treat...
2) As she comes back, point right 1st finger to the ground...
3) As she lies down (assuming she does), click...
4) Throw out next treat...

If she doesn't lay down (It's a little touch and go at the moment), is it best to interviene and push her bottom down? Or rather than "throw" a treat out, use the treat to lure her to the floor (maybe while pushing her bottom down)?

noooooo...no pushing down of bottoms...slow down hun - give her chance to do the behaviour if she looking you then she prob thinking...if she wanders off do another behaviour she knows to motivate her ...like the back of hand touch then try again

lure only if you need to.....
