Training Treats (again... sorry!)
« on: July 30, 2008, 12:29:39 PM »
Heya,

Sorry to start this one again but I'm just in a total wirlwind about treats! I can obviously just use chicken but that's going to go off in such a short period of time (and to be honest, I really don't want to faff with boiling a chicken breast everyday!)

Can chicken be dried in the same way as liver? i.e. Boil for 15mins then bake for 45-60mins etc... Will it keep better?

I've just done a search on t'internet for "natural dog treats" and it came up with this site: http://www.dogsgold.co.uk
Anything on there that's worth looking into?... I know (expensive) but that doesn't bother me a great deal to be honest...

Anyone else have any other options that doesn't envolve preparing/cooking/baking for me to look into? I found out list night that Izzy is not a big fan of cheese!

Frankfurters work quite well chopped up, as do pepperami sticks. I found Cass didn't like cheddar but went mad for edam cheese.

get any sort of meat - cooked or not

blitz it
add in a bit of water
bit of garlic powder
wiz in some flour
(you can add veggies, fruit, oats etc etc)

put it into a dish shove in the microwave

cut up
bag
freeze

get it out as and when you need it

in my freezer at the moment we have
1 massive bag of kidney cake
1 massive bag of chicken cake
1 massive bag of cheese cake

That's a perfect recipe and I can do that in one hit in an evening - excellent! Do you feed the treats frozen or defrost them again?

be careful of the amount of hotdogs you give Izzy, they are full of salt.  :)

You're telling me! See my thread from today about foods dangerous for dogs, after Toby ate some raisins last night and I spent a sleepless night beside myself with worry I know I'm not cut out for kids!

what you have to remember is that i have 6 BCs  :D

and i do A LOT of training

i have a full freezer draw of frozen dog treats

my dogs are happy to eat them frozen

my advice is use a decent food processer (ive got 2 - one is about 15 years old the other was on freecycle)  - blenders seem to die very quickly with that sort of stuff
when it looks a bit like cake mix put it in a pot dish (easier to clean)
blast it - looks a bit sloppy - blast it some more
turn it over and blast it again
doesnt matter if you burn it the dogs will eat it anyway

dogs are loads easier than kids - you can leave your dogs at home when you go to work - nursery costs a damm fortune

SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
(been out today and bought first school uniform)

natures menu do some beef and chicken ones that if you chop em in half or even more they dryish meat type so tastey but dont get sweaty when its hot
meat i just dry it, i do but tend to use within a few days as its only our left overs.

Is there any reason why i couldn't use turkey? I'm in the supermarket and it's a 1/4 of the price of chicken! Thought i'd ask before jumping in! :)
