nope but it dont sound nice :(

its the body attacking itself and those type conditions never seem to be that easy - from quick google, it can be managed but expect more slobber and mushed up food plus vet bills and possibly anaesthetic if the jaw needs manually opening.  it seems it can clear up but can also re-occur.

GSD / large breeds seem to be the affected ones

also - if it reaches end stage you can lose the dog to it  "In more advanced cases of Masticatory myositis the patient’s jaws will not open even under general anesthesia."  (and IMO its probably kinder to leave them under than a life from a feeding tube)

no thank god not one of mine - we have a young rottie in rescue who has it. She looks like the living dead :'( the whole thing happened in 48 hours so came as a massive shock to us all.
She's eating alright now and her whole body is fine except her head. She's fine in her self too except is drinking loads and weeing even more thanks to the steriods. I'm off to the vets with her and stephen tomorrow so i'll hear more about it then. She's called Harlie and is 16months old;

hi,

the other thing to do would be to google it with something like "dog diagnosed with"

see if you can pick up owner stories on other forums

went to the vets today and they are pleased with her. She wouldn't allow the vet to open her mouth but it wasn't like a week ago when she was yelping when they touched it. She was on two steriods twice a day and has now been cut down to two tabs once a day.
She's been giving lots of kisses and cuddles all morning so just another test towards her temperment.
On a brighter note we've had a couple interested in her. They saw her in the vets the other week and are wanting to meet her once she is feeling better. :)
