Why isn't "phonics" as in "phonetics" spelled with an "F" ?

im not a teacher but i think its coz phonics and phonetics are greek words and they use an 'F' sound for 'PH'

Hiya,

its a roman mispronounciation of the greek "phi" as "fi" which carried over into english and some other european languages but not all hence

we phone with a phone whereas in some counties you fone with a fone :)

i have a chinese friend ...as in she lives in china....and when was she learning english she had real trouble with stuff like horse and hoarse where and wear....she once asked me why f**K wasnt spelt ph**k  ;D
