Does anyone know a GOOD experienced BC behaviour specialist?

Preferably one that uses the Amichien Bonding.

Amichien bonding  :canadian:

My idea of a good behaviourist isn't someone who uses those methods  :)  Spesh not the 'inventor' of that phrase  ;)

Barbara Sykes has forgotten more about Border Collies than the likes of Jan Fennell & her followers could ever learn

Hi,

If you would like to use AC bonding I can highly reccommend someone that I know and I think is excellent.  If she's not in your area then she will travel or know someone who is.

Putting aside my own opinions for a moment, AC bonding is definately one of the better behaviour methods especially for a breed like border collies who can get very very unpredictable from harsh methods.  It promotes alot of positive things between dog and owner like trust and confidence - I think this is borne out in the people who train their dog with AC and then later become successful trainers themselves.

On a more personal note, and especially as BC's are close to my heart - I would defintely reccommend this method highly over many other methods and over using commercial "thingamabobs" to restrict unwanted behaviours :)  I think AC is certainly interesting and I have seen it get FAB results with some real nasty beggars !!  However, for me - I am comfortable with using kizkiznobite's methods and though she works gundogs, and does pretend not to really like BC's that much (hehe) she has actually worked with a fair few of the cheeky beggars that I know of :)

Many Thanks,

Claire.

I am not sure why anyone would want a behaviourist that "specialised" in a particular breed; a good behaviourist is a good behaviourist.

However I can thoroughly recommend Anne Bussey who belongs to the APBC and has worked, trained, judged, more BCs than you can shake a stick at!

She lives in Kent pm me if you want contact details

ps she has nothing to do with Amichien and is an accomplished clicker trainer if that is of any assistance.

Jan Fennell cannot be compared with Barbara Sykes, JF is a one size fits all "behaviourist"Barbara has a lifetime of experience of Border Collie & has an understanding of the breed that JF could only dream about.
Barbara Swann was a shepherdess first & also had the understanding of the psyche of the BC that JF will never ever have
