spay incontinence
« on: June 03, 2010, 10:51:03 AM »
Hi

 :help:

Just wondering if anyone has delt with spay incontinence?
Skye (our rescue dog) as most dogs licks herself. started doing it alot more then i thought was normal but we have also noticed that after she stops and moves from where she has been sitting it looks like she has pee'd herself, but she hasnt as its a sort of clear liquid and doesnt smell.
I looked this up online and found spay incontinence but this normally happens to dogs bout 1-2 yrs after they have been spayed. we was told when we got her that she was done at 6 weeks old before she'd had  her 1st season but that was 9 yrs ago.

Hi keaton
What you want is Phenylpropanolamine (PPA) it's a non-hormonal medication commonly used in male and female dogs to treat incontinence.
It is most common in spayed castrated dogs as they age, in a dog spayed so young you have been lucky for her to reach 9 with no problems

I have a dog who is spay incontinent, it started within a month of having her spayed, she is now 15.  She was on Propalin Syrup, now on Uralin Syrup - very low dose, two drops twice a day.

If I were you though, I would take her to the vet.  It seems very odd for it to start so many years after being spayed.  Better safe than sorry.

Tila has this and is on propain for the rest of her life now. controlled nicely on a small dose but she was spayed aroun 4-5 years old and it started a couple of months after she was spayed.
