Was it my post Val,Travis had heartworm as a youngster, our vet was useless kept telling me he had KC but he was really unwell,Paul had gone away for the weekend ,Travis had been to the vet on the Friday and the vet told me I was overreacting,on the Saturday he was really ill,I didn’t have enough money here to take him to the vet,my dad is an OAP so on benefits so (I know I shouldn’t have)took him to the PDSA they diagnosed heartworm he was quite poorly for quite a while.Just been on another forum where member’s were quite amused their dogs were eating slugs and snails, thats where the vet thought Travis had picked this disease up from,he also told me some parts of the country are worse than others for lung and heartworm Wales being one of them needless to say we changed our vet

Lungworm has always been in the UK, and is more prevalent in certain areas of the UK.

Panacur is the wormer of choice for this issue.  Vets will often do a lavage of the lungs and x ray to diagnose.

Heartworm is not endemic in the UK.

Slugs and snails are vectors of lungworm.
