Update from the owner

The condition is stable, meaning hemorrhagic view as you saw in the last dated photo. Nothing has changed with the new phase of homeopathy yet.

We really have no certain idea of how he caught the infection. Only speculations such as (a) from an infected mother, (b) from an infected birth place (I took him only after he was already 2 months old), (c) from infected urine, as he uses to urinate sometimes like a “girl”, you know, he doesn’t always lift his leg to urinate cause he is short and not far away from the ground, so sometimes touches it.

I had a communication with Dr. Kerem Ural (DVM PhD DVIM) from The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Board of High Stewards, Ankara, Turkey, who had run a research about the use of azythromycin in STD’s. He suggested that we should run a second biopsy test, but I find it very risky, since the first one took very long to stop bleeding. His second thought was the use of Therakron (a tarandula extract, homeopathic) or as a last resort the chemotherapy.

I am really in the dark and not sure anymore that it is a papillomatosis. It has taken too long (> 2y) and not healed yet.

I am glad though that the little fellow doesn’t seem to feel anything, but an itch sometimes. He is not in pain or something like that. His mood and apetite is excellent.

Anyway, it is really nice to have people around me who care like you. Really I thank you so much for your support and I hope that a solution will come eventually.

that really is awful minpin – do you know how the dog got the virus and if it was from mating, was the bitch tested clear ?

Claire I don’t have any other information other than what is already on my blog, if and when I hear back from the owner I will post an update.

as i said claire the girl rarely shows signs and it doesnt always show up on a pre mate swab as it is symptomatic…so regardless of detergents, feeding, vacs etc…buy a pup in good faith….and then…

hi,

i thought in general terms viruses (are they virii ?) were more likely to cause problems for immune compromised dogs – same as in people. 

also – immunocompromisation can be genetically passed on so if the dogs Bev mentions are only 1st gen raw/novac they could well have immune problems.

and one of the times immune system is under stress is during “emotional” periods e.g. season / pregnancy …..

Val hips not done yet, have just booked her in for PHPV on 7th Nov, then will get VWD done then HD.
They are even saying dogs should be DCM checked now before mating! But surely she’s too young? Bev thanks for the info, will give it a good read tomorrow, been out tonight, but like you said about your ‘bestest girl’, Kodi is my bestest girlie, and I  want to do everything I can to protect her 🙂

I have to disagree.  I strongly believe that it is.  (And there are sites that agree with me.)  There are far more immune compromised dogs around than there are healthy ones…..they are all vaccinated “up the wazoo” as they say in the States, Frontlined (or whatever), over-wormed, etc., etc., etc.

I do talk to breeders….I not only talk to them, I have had phone calls in the middle of the night asking for help with fading puppies (which I have saved)….so, yes, I am very aware of it.

As far as I can see the virus is widespread in the canine population – latent in normal healthy animals but can reactivate or infect during a period of stress – pregnancy being one such which is both a stress on the body and a period of raised progesterone which depresses the immune system in order to prevent it attacking the foetuses which are non self tissue. Therefore regardless of the overall immune status of the bitch (ie can have the best immune system in the world), pregnancy in itself increases the infection risk and vaccination against CHV should stimulate antibodies, hopefully to prevent transfer of virus to pups and reduce neonatal mortality from fading puppies.  :-\
