http://www.ruma.org.uk/guidelines/vaccines/long/poultry%20vaccine%20long.pdf

The breeder follows the vaccine program for layers, the pdf has charts telling what vaccine and type, how given :ok:

Willow comes with me sometimes, watches them wagging her tail.
Tam was a pain in the ar*** to start with until we blocked off his access, I let him up there only with me and make him sit and stay calm or we go back down the garden. He is getting better, give it a couple of weeks he will be fine – he was the same with the kittens ::)

Hey! It’s like looking at my own new stock  . Some of the newbloods are they same ones. hahaha.

The house and the hens look lovely
Thank you :-*
Had our second egg already ;D
Mabel will already let me pet her and pick her up
The others are more shy so I just sit in the pen and talk to them, they are slowly coming closer to me and beginning to trust me. They put themselves to bed tonight.
I didn’t think I would be able to tell them apart but it’s easy – getting quite attached to them already :embarrass:
They still young enough, if you want them really to trust you from vèry close, don’t feed too much at a time. Try twice a day, andf first feeding time  just enough so they are hungry again the second time. Just sit and not speak with the food infront of you. If they not come to eat than move little further a way from you, than try closer and closer every time. If you can hand feed them you know you’re there  .  Some like you within days, other will take weeks, and very few will never eat out of you hand. But a lot will. And than you got the problem of not being able to show your face and NOT step on a chicken because you mean foooood  ::)  😀 .

Just keep in mind that chickens don’t really like body contact. In incubator till about 16 weeks they do but after that not so much anymore. Not they don’t trust you no more, they’re just generaly not that keen on being picket up.

quote :

Need to be able to handle them in case they get any heath problems. They are interesting to watch and have their own characters.

Hahaha, yes they do and soon you’l have a topchick. She the one with the biggest b@lls. The one who comes to eat first and will take from others what she wants. Some of those can be really mean little devils  >:D .

is it just a one off vaccination? just father in law got hens, gets loads of eggs off them, they keep telling me it is how the hens are kept that mean they dont have sallmonella eggs – my mum told me it was a vaccination, just havent eaten any of his eggs yet as feel abit funny and hubby is always making moose and icecream which i’m like 😮 with thses eggs!

How are Tam and Willow around the hens?
I vancine too, but during breeding time. Vaccine no hurt for the baby chickens if they hatch, but eggs during vaccine not suitable for human consumption till 14 days after vaccine. I usually vaccine for 3 days in a row and than leave them to breed for 21 days.
And i do this every year.

Lass, hows Tam’s recall? If fairly good…Diesel can be jumpy with bigger newbloods too. Way to hard on them. Needs a day or 2-3 to be kept close to me  ::) . But do try every day, he’ll get it. He like little Diesel in colour  >:D . + chickens learn too that dog is just something that can drool on you and step on you too. :canadian: Wodan’s always like; i’m the man, just accept it. Diesel’s like; i’m the man and got to prove to you that chickens are in MY space.  :tease:

Reaheahealy? Well than i got some questions for YOU  ……

Seen your new thread Diesel ;D
Mabel comes to me now when I go near the run, if I sit in there with them then she will sit on the log beside me and peck me till I talk to her. She lets me stroke her too and follows me around.
Molly steals the best treats away from the others.
Tam will recall if I am firm enough, he’s not so excited by them now. If he got into the run without me he would kill them, thinks they are living squeaky toys.

Hmm, the sound they make when chickens get scared  :-\ , Diesel likes that too  ::) . E-ve-ry day he runs into the field, making poulty jump up, squeak, and run of only for Dieseldog to chase them and bring them back home. Think that boy want maximum chasing fun and not just dumb chickens that go where he wants them too  :canadian: .

😉

Need any of these? Got exactlly 111 of those little ones. This couple and youngens keep breaking loose and eat my garden  ::). Want a new lawnmower? With this heat (25°+  Wodan’s out of the game so Diesel has to bring the back to were they belong. Our garden has been since the stroke Wodan’s ‘workspace’…) So he goes to get them…

And is bring them back ‘home’ (the field where the barns are and he quickly found out that if he takes mam home the chicks and father will automaticaly follow hahahaha).
